Santa Fe – The New Mexico State Forestry and State Parks Divisions are partners on a pile burn at Hyde Memorial State park that will begin tomorrow, Tuesday, December 6th, weather permitting.
Hyde Memorial State Park is at a high risk for wildfire. The burn is part of an ongoing mitigation project at the site that began last year. This week’s endeavor will last one to three days. Crews will be active on approximately 30 acres from mid-morning through the afternoon. The duration of the pile burn will be dependent upon weather conditions.
The New Mexico Environment Department's Air Quality Bureau will monitor the local smoke impact. Individuals in the surrounding area who have smoke sensitivities are advised to limit their outdoor exposure during the burn. Windows should remain closed and air should be circulated from within one’s living space. Smoke may travel offsite and surrounding roads, including Highway 475/Hyde Park Road, could be temporarily closed if visibility is compromised. Hyde Memorial State Park will remain open to the public.
